The attack, which took place on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Agu Centre in Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area, was reportedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen in collaboration with local militias.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday. He said six suspects had already been arrested and were assisting investigators with useful information.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in Benue, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is personally leading rescue operations to locate the missing personnel and track down the perpetrators.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has also ordered the deployment of additional tactical units to the area to reinforce security and restore calm.
The Sankera axis, which covers Katsina-Ala, Logo, and Ukum LGAs, has long been a troubled zone with recurring violence linked to armed herders and militia groups. The latest incident comes barely a week after a similar ambush in Egbe, Kogi State, on September 10, where three officers also lost their lives.
The police assured the public that efforts are ongoing to rescue the missing officers and bring those behind the attack to justice.
