The teachers received their appointment letters during a ceremony held at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, where the governor charged them to remain committed to building integrity, discipline, and sound character in their pupils.
The latest recruitment adds to the governor’s earlier approvals of 5,500 teachers in 2023, 5,632 in 2024, and 4,000 in May 2025, all drawn from the BESDA scheme. According to him, the sustained intake reflects his administration’s determination to reposition education as a key priority.
In addition to the recruitment, Governor Yusuf unveiled plans to employ another 2,616 teachers, launch a N200 million vehicle loan scheme, and distribute 444 motorcycles along with 300 computers to enhance school supervision and evaluation.
Other initiatives announced include the reopening of Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School with 180 pupils, the conversion of another school in Ungogo Local Government into a boarding facility, and the engagement of 17,000 watchmen to secure schools across the state.
Highlighting the impact of these reforms, the governor noted that Kano emerged as the best-performing state in the 2025 NECO examination, a feat he credited to the government’s ongoing efforts to rescue and reform the education sector.
