Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has voiced strong opposition to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s alleged plan to install a retired Court of Appeal judge as the next chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking in a live interview on Arise TV, Galadima described the rumored nominee as a judge with “notoriety” and a questionable track record, warning that such an appointment could jeopardize the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system.
He cautioned that bringing someone accused of judicial bias to head INEC would undermine public trust in the commission and heighten political tensions as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections. Galadima said such a move would be capable of creating instability.
Galadima also took aim at the current INEC leadership, accusing it of tilting in favor of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He alleged that the existing chairman’s conduct has already cast doubts on the commission’s neutrality.
Despite these concerns, the NNPP stalwart insisted that the opposition remains determined to resist any move that threatens Nigeria’s democracy. He stressed that the ruling APC risks losing power if governance does not improve before the next polls.
Galadima further hailed former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as a political “generalissimo,” saying his popularity would guarantee victory in Kano under a free and fair electoral process.
