The announcement was made by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

According to the government, the celebration is an opportunity for Muslims to emulate the virtues of the Prophet, including peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion. Nigerians of all faiths were also encouraged to use the occasion to pray for the country’s peace, security, and stability.

Eid-ul-Mawlid, which falls in the third month of the Islamic calendar, Rabi’ al-Awwal, is traditionally observed with prayers, religious lectures, processions, and acts of charity.

The holiday also serves as a moment to foster unity, strengthen brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and support national development efforts.
