A cleaner at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Faiza Abdulkadir, has been honoured with a N2.5 million cash gift from a kind-hearted donor after she returned N4.8 million that was mistakenly deposited into her bank account.

The presentation took place on Monday in Maiduguri, where Aisha Muhammad Aisami, president of the Da’awah Wal Irshaad Women Organisation in Borno State, handed over the donation on behalf of the anonymous benefactor.

According to Aisami, the donor had read about Faiza’s story in a newspaper and was deeply touched by her honesty, prompting the decision to reward her. The benefactor, however, chose to remain unnamed.

Faiza expressed her heartfelt gratitude to both the donor and the organisation. She explained that her decision to return the N4.8 million was driven by her fear of God and the need to maintain peace of mind.

Her action has drawn wide commendation from residents, religious groups, and bank officials, many of whom described her as an example of integrity in a society where trust is often eroded. Despite earning a monthly salary of N30,000 as a cleaner, Faiza chose to act with honesty, which they said should serve as an inspiration to others.

This is not the first time she is being recognised for her rare display of character. Earlier, the Borno State First Lady, Dr. Falmata Babagana Zulum, had presented her with N1 million, food items, and vocational training tools to support her livelihood. Similarly, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Zuwaira Gambo, praised her uprightness, noting that such integrity is uncommon and worthy of emulation.
