Former Zamfara Central Senator, Kabiru Garba Marafa, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing President Bola Tinubu of sidelining both him and the state despite their support during the 2023 elections.

Marafa, who served as the coordinator of Tinubu’s presidential campaign in Zamfara, announced his decision after a two-day meeting of the Senator Kabiru Marafa Consultative Forum held in Kaduna on August 27 and 28, 2025.
The gathering drew participants from all 14 local government areas of Zamfara State and deliberated on worsening insecurity, political instability, and developmental challenges facing the state.
In a communiqué signed by the Forum’s chairman, Comrade Bashir Muhammad Mafara; secretary, Dr. Mannir Bature Tsafe; and other members, the group recalled that Marafa had delivered Zamfara’s votes to Tinubu in 2023, even assuring the then-candidate that there was no need for him to campaign in the state.
However, the statement accused the Tinubu administration of adopting a “use-and-dump” approach, pointing to escalating insecurity, lack of federal intervention for victims of banditry, and political marginalization. The communiqué also noted that despite Zamfara’s support, the state only got one Minister of State position in Tinubu’s cabinet.
Following the meeting, Marafa’s political structure across 147 wards in Zamfara announced its collective resignation from the APC. The group said it would soon unveil its next political direction, adding that its decisions would be guided by the overall interest of the people of Zamfara.
