Adamu Mukhtar, a former special adviser on protocol to ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, has faulted the Kano State Government over its defense of the current director general of protocol, Abdullahi Ibrahim-Rogo, in the ongoing controversy surrounding an alleged diversion of N6.5 billion.

Mukhtar, in a statement issued on Tuesday, described the claims made by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration as “misleading and politically motivated.” He was reacting to the government’s assertion that the protocol directorate received about N20 billion between February and May 2023.
According to him, available records show that the directorate’s yearly budget has never exceeded N300 million. He also noted that Kano State received a total of N33.05 billion in federal allocations during the period cited by the government, which, in his view, makes the figures put forward by the administration questionable.
Mukhtar further accused the government of attempting to shield the current protocol chief through media narratives despite the matter already being before the court. He challenged the administration to release verified documents instead of what he described as lengthy political rhetoric, stressing the need for the public to know whether N6.5 billion was withdrawn, for what purpose, and if it was duly accounted for.
The Kano State Government, however, maintains that allegations of misappropriation are baseless and a product of political mischief. Officials have repeatedly dismissed the reports, insisting that the Yusuf administration is committed to transparency and accountability in public service.
