The decision was reached on Monday during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja. Alongside the zoning arrangement, the NEC also confirmed Umar Damagum as the party’s national chairman, retaining the position in the North.
Damagum, who had been serving in an acting capacity since March 2023, was previously the party’s National Deputy Chairman (North).
In his acceptance remarks, Damagum expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him and the National Working Committee. He acknowledged the internal challenges confronting the party but stressed that the PDP remains strong and united ahead of future elections.
