The Director-General of the agency, Dr. Bashir-Abdu Muzakkari, revealed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on the sidelines of a Youth Impact Forum held by KALM in Zaria. He explained that the initiative is part of the state’s Digital Economic Policy and Digital Transformation Agenda, which aims to make youths digitally literate at basic, intermediate, and advanced levels between 2025 and 2027.
Muzakkari noted that a pilot phase has already engaged 150,000 youths, while 1,150 recently graduated from the Kano State Entrepreneurship Institute and the Kano State Institute for Information Technology. According to him, the state government is also planning to replicate KALM’s interface programme in tertiary institutions across Kano.
He added that the agency has introduced a Hackathon tagged HEAT, focusing on health, education, agriculture, and transportation to encourage young innovators to create practical solutions. Promising ideas from the programme, he said, could attract funding and open job opportunities for startups.
Founder of KALM Community Initiative, Ms. Aisha Muhammad, said the organisation’s goal is to open doors for young Nigerians in technology. She stressed that KALM provides hands-on support for youths ready to embrace digital skills, adding that partnerships with key stakeholders are vital in tackling unemployment nationwide.
