The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of cannabis valued at more than N10 million and arrested a 27-year-old suspect in Kano State.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the suspect, identified as Umar Adamu-Umar from Fagge Local Government Area, was arrested on August 6 along the Zaria–Kano Road.

He was reportedly transporting 19 parcels of cannabis sativa, weighing 9kg, from Lagos to Kano when operatives attached to the Kiru Area Command intercepted him. The agency noted that Adamu-Umar had been under surveillance before his arrest and confessed to being involved in the illegal drug trade.

The NDLEA said the seizure was a major setback to the trafficking network, describing it as a disruption to their supply chain and a blow to their financial operations. The command added that removing the drugs from circulation would help shield vulnerable communities from the social and economic consequences of substance abuse.

The State Commander, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, assured that the agency would continue to strengthen its patrols and intelligence-driven operations to tackle drug trafficking across the state.
