President Bola Tinubu has approved a significant cut in the cost of kidney dialysis in federal hospitals across Nigeria, lowering the price from N50,000 to N12,000.

Presidential adviser on information, Daniel Bwala, explained that the decision was aimed at easing the financial burden on thousands of patients suffering from kidney diseases nationwide.
Despite the relief, federal hospitals in Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Kebbi have been excluded from the first phase of implementation. Reports suggest that Jigawa is among the states with some of the highest cases of kidney disease in the country, raising concerns over the exclusion.
Among the federal health facilities where the subsidy has taken effect are FMC Ebute-Metta in Lagos, FMC Jabi in Abuja, University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, FMC Owerri, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), FMC Abeokuta, FMC Azare, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), and University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).
