According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Education, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the inauguration took place on Monday at the office of the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda. The move is part of the state’s renewed efforts to provide inclusive and quality education for all children.
Dr. Makoda explained that the initiative is aimed at reaching children who have never been enrolled in school as well as those who dropped out of the formal education system. He said the committee is tasked with expanding access to education, improving learning quality, and creating opportunities for skills development and future employment.
“The committee is expected to tackle the root causes of the problem by addressing poverty, reducing child labour, and enhancing community participation, while also providing a framework to overcome security challenges that hinder access to education,” the Commissioner stated.
The committee will be chaired by the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Education Reform, Haladu Muhammad, and is composed of representatives from government agencies, traditional institutions, academia, development partners, and civil society organizations.
In his response, the chairman represented by Umar Lawan, the State Lead of the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria Education (PLANE) supported by FCDO pledged the committee’s commitment to deliver on its mandate and justify the confidence of the government.
Dr. Makoda urged the members to work with dedication and ensure impactful results in reducing the number of out-of-school children in Kano.
