In a statement on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, explained that the recovery operation began after a farmer, identified as Babagana Kachalla, reported sighting a suspicious object partially buried on his land.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, directed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Base 13, Maiduguri, to the site. On arrival, the operatives identified the object as a Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU) measuring about 2.2 meters in length and 30 centimeters in width.
According to the police, the EOD-CBRN team conducted a controlled demolition at the site before extracting the cluster munitions plates. The operation was completed without incident.
The command also used the opportunity to sensitize residents of the community on Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORA), stressing the need for vigilance and the importance of promptly reporting any suspicious objects or activities to the nearest security formation.
