In a communiqué issued after its Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the NLC demanded the refund of workers’ funds allegedly diverted from the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and the immediate inauguration of the Governing Board of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).
The labour body, led by President Comrade Joe Ajaero, warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period would result in a nationwide strike.
According to the communiqué, the CWC reviewed several challenges confronting workers, accusing the government of neglecting workers’ welfare and undermining the integrity of pension administration.
The meeting also resolved to dissolve the congress’s leadership in Edo State, though no reason was provided for the decision.
The NLC stressed that Nigerian workers will no longer tolerate the mismanagement of their resources or disregard for their welfare.
