The Kano State House of Assembly has ordered the suspension of Rano Local Government Chairman, Muhammad Nazir Yau, for three months to allow an investigation into multiple allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, and financial mismanagement raised by councillors.
The action followed the presentation of an interim report by the House Committee on Public Petition, chaired by Majority Leader Hussaini Lawan Cediyar Yangurasa, during Wednesday’s plenary.

Lawmakers directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to instruct the vice chairman to step in as acting chairman until the probe is concluded.
According to the committee, the accusations against Yau include deliberately creating discord among local political leaders and councillors, favouring allies in the distribution of government resources, and selling Dangote school forms, GES fertiliser, and state-supplied fertiliser at prices above the government-approved N20,000 without council approval. He is also alleged to have mishandled market revenues, sold and allocated market stalls without authorisation, disrespected party elders, and misused council funds.
The committee said that during a hearing on August 11, Yau denied several claims but admitted to increasing fertiliser prices by N2,000 above the official rate.
Relying on Section 55(1–6) of the Kano State Local Government Law 2006, the committee recommended the suspension and ordered that all administrative and financial records be submitted within seven days.
