In a statement issued on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the warning follows 16 serious accidents recorded in August 2025 involving underage riders, resulting in injuries and property losses.
Kiyawa stressed that minors found operating tricycles will be arrested and prosecuted, adding that parents and guardians must ensure their children do not engage in the practice to avoid facing legal consequences themselves.
He disclosed that a special enforcement team has been set up to monitor compliance with traffic laws, urging residents to report cases of underage tricycle operation or reckless driving to the nearest police station or through emergency lines 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
According to the police, the measure aims to curb rising road accidents and enhance public safety across the metropolis.
