The Kano State Executive Council has approved the conversion of the Gaya Orphanage Home into a female drug reformatory institute as part of a series of projects worth over N14.8 billion aimed at boosting development across the state.

The approval was contained in a statement on Friday issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, after the Council’s 30th meeting held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Kwankwasiyya City Council Chamber, where members discussed key infrastructure, health, water, and rural development initiatives.
According to the breakdown, the Ministry of Works received the largest share of the funding, N11.8 billion, covering not only the conversion of the Gaya Orphanage but also the construction of a standard transit centre in Gaya LGA, the re-award of contracts for the Jaba–Gayawa Road and the dualisation of Dakata–Yadakunya (Bela) Road, and the building of Badgery Road to Yusuf Road in Nassarawa LGA.
The Ministry of Land and Physical Planning got N882.9 million for security document printing and expansion works, while the Ministry of Health received N1.66 billion for hospital renovations, solar installations in maternity facilities, supply of drugs, and upgrading of primary health centres.
In the water sector, N310 million was approved for fuel supplies, and N169.6 million was allocated to the Ministry for Rural and Community Development for the rehabilitation of five mini earth dams in Madobi, Gwarzo, Garun Malam, Kibiya, and Ajingi LGAs.
The Council also ratified a N889.27 billion supplementary and amendment budget for 2025, representing an increase of over N169.5 billion from the initial budget. The proposal will be sent to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative approval.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration said these decisions reflect a targeted approach to governance, aimed at delivering tangible benefits to the people of Kano State.
