Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has offered employment to 1,038 young agricultural extension agents and support staff in a move aimed at transforming the state’s agricultural sector.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the newly recruited workers will serve under the Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA) to support the implementation of modern farming practices and boost food production across the state.

Governor Yusuf presented the letters of appointment during a ceremony held at the Coronation Hall of the Government House in Kano on Monday.

While addressing the beneficiaries, the governor urged them to serve with dedication, warning against absenteeism, corruption, and misconduct.

“As frontline ambassadors of agricultural transformation, your conduct and commitment will directly influence the success of our efforts to revitalize agriculture and empower rural communities,” he said.

He described the new workers as “change agents” who would bring modern tools, ideas, and solutions to farms and cooperative societies across the state.

Although Kano currently leads the country in the number of extension workers, the governor said more hands were still needed to strengthen the system.

Governor Yusuf commended the efforts of the State Ministry of Agriculture, KNARDA, the Civil Service Commission, and other stakeholders for ensuring the successful recruitment process.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, said the mass employment was designed to improve food security and uplift citizens’ livelihoods.

Also speaking, the Chairperson of the Kano State Civil Service Commission, Hajiya Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, described the initiative as a bold step towards boosting the state’s agricultural workforce.

Speaking on behalf of the newly employed staff, Saminu Sani Garba thanked the governor for the opportunity and promised to contribute meaningfully to agricultural development in the state.
