The Kano State Government has ordered full enforcement of traffic regulations across the state, warning that defaulters will face stiff penalties.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf gave the directive following what the government described as massive investments in urban renewal, including the installation of modern traffic lights, streetlights, and road signs to improve safety and enhance the city’s outlook.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
Despite these developments, the government expressed concern over the growing disregard for traffic rules by motorists and pedestrians, especially the frequent disobedience of the newly installed traffic lights.
To address this, the governor has directed the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to immediately begin rigorous enforcement of traffic laws across the metropolis.
Only emergency service vehicles such as fire trucks, ambulances, and security vehicles on duty will be exempted from the rules, the government clarified.
The statement also warned that any attempt by individuals or public officials to interfere with the work of traffic enforcement officers will be treated as sabotage. Such interference, it said, will be reported to relevant authorities.
The governor emphasized that the strict enforcement of traffic laws is part of efforts to transform Kano into a safe and orderly mega city.
“Anyone found violating traffic rules or undermining the state’s urban renewal efforts will be dealt with according to the law,” the statement warned.
