The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kano State, Abdu Zango, has stated that the term “inconclusive elections” is not recognized under Nigeria’s electoral laws.

Zango made the clarification on Thursday while addressing stakeholders at the commission’s headquarters in Kano, during a meeting ahead of the August 16 bye-election and rerun in Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa state assembly constituencies.
Zango emphasized that the Electoral Act does not provide for or define the term “inconclusive elections,” despite it being widely used in previous electoral cycles. He pointed out that the commission is mandated to declare winners based strictly on the outcome of valid votes cast and recorded.
Providing further updates, Zango explained that the bye-election in Bagwai/Shanono was necessitated by the death of the sitting lawmaker. In contrast, the rerun in Ghari/Tsanyawa will take place in 10 polling units, as ordered by a court ruling.
He also assured stakeholders that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be deployed for voter accreditation and that results will be electronically transmitted to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal to ensure transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
