In a letter dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 1 Chairman in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye expressed deep dissatisfaction with the direction of the party, saying it lacked the capacity to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
He explained that his decision followed careful reflection on the state of the PDP, stressing that he could no longer in good conscience continue to support or participate in the party’s activities.
Melaye said the PDP had failed to demonstrate the strength and resolve needed to deliver Nigerians from what he described as political decay that had deeply affected the nation.
“Please consider this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels with immediate effect,” he wrote.
The former lawmaker also expressed gratitude to the PDP for allowing him to serve during his time as a member.
