The announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Nakwada. According to the statement, the appointment followed the traditional recommendation of the Gusau Emirate kingmakers, in line with customary practices and applicable laws.

Alhaji Abdulkadir, who held the traditional title of Bunun Gusau before his elevation, is the eldest son of the late Emir Ibrahim Bello, who died on July 25, 2025, after serving the emirate for ten years.

In his congratulatory message, Governor Lawal urged the new Emir to uphold the honour and legacy of his late father by fostering peace, unity, and development within the emirate and the state at large.
