A hippopotamus attack has claimed the life of a young man in Banjiram, Guyuk Local Government Area of Adamawa State, following an invasion by animals displaced by flooding.

Chairman of Guyuk LGA, Shalom Kassa, confirmed the incident during a visit to the affected community. The animals, driven out of their habitat near Kiri Dam, have spread across Guyuk and Shelleng, destroying farmlands, threatening lives, and endangering livestock.

The chairmen of both LGAs have appealed to the state government for urgent intervention.

Residents remain vulnerable, as wildlife laws prohibit them from killing or harming the animals despite the threat.

The Secretary to the State Government has assured that steps will be taken to address the situation.
