The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 24 students of Bayero University Kano (BUK) for alleged involvement in cybercrime.

The suspects were apprehended on monday during a sting operation carried out by operatives from the Kano Zonal Directorate of the EFCC.

The arrests followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance which linked the students to online fraud, identity theft, and financial scams.

During the operation, officials recovered laptops, mobile phones, internet routers, and a Honda Accord vehicle from the suspects.

Those arrested include Ismail Nura, Suuleyman Ayeh, Usman Abdulrazaq, among others. The commission said it is continuing investigations and will arraign the suspects in court upon conclusion.

The operation comes after a similar raid on July 17, where 23 suspected internet fraudsters were arrested at a location along Kano-Zaria Road. The EFCC said the site was linked to a cybercrime training hub, with 12 phones, two laptops, and incriminating documents recovered.
