A chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Alhaji Aminu Ringim, has said that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is the only politician in Nigeria today who embodies the leadership qualities of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Ringim highlighted Kwankwaso’s track record in human capital development and infrastructure during his tenure as Kano State governor, saying these achievements position him as an ideal national leader.
According to him, Kwankwaso’s ability to connect with ordinary Nigerians, especially at the grassroots level, sets him apart. He noted that the former governor’s people-focused policies and his emphasis on education, youth empowerment, and social justice mirror the northern populist legacy that Buhari represented.
“Kwankwaso is humble, approachable, and commands mass appeal. These are traits that made Buhari popular among the masses and are still relevant in Nigerian politics today,” Ringim said.
Drawing comparisons with iconic northern leaders, Ringim described Kwankwaso as a modern-day blend of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello for his vision and ability to mobilize people, Mallam Aminu Kano for his dedication to egalitarian principles, and Buhari for his discipline and commitment to accountability.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, Ringim expressed confidence that Kwankwaso is in a strong position to contest for the presidency again, especially since he has no legal hurdles preventing his participation.
He also noted that Kwankwaso’s appeal cuts across regional and ethnic divides, a quality he believes is essential for any presidential candidate aspiring to unify Nigeria.
Commenting on ongoing speculations of a possible alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ringim confirmed that there have been backchannel talks aimed at bringing Kwankwaso into the ruling party.
He argued that if the APC is serious about inclusive development and strengthening its base in the North, then aligning with Kwankwaso, whose political ideology focuses on people-centered governance, would be a strategic move.
