Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has affirmed that Peter Obi remains a committed member of the party despite his recent support for a political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking during a reconciliation meeting in Abuja with Julius Abure, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Datti clarified that the ADC is not a political party in competition with Labour, but rather a coalition platform aimed at building a stronger opposition front. He stressed that Obi’s involvement in the coalition does not signal his departure from the Labour Party.
“My relationship with Peter Obi is still very cordial,” Datti said. “It is easier to crack the APC than to crack our relationship.”
Datti’s intervention is part of a broader effort to resolve internal disputes that have rocked the Labour Party since the 2023 general elections. The party has been entangled in a leadership crisis that threatens its unity and future performance, especially with the 2027 elections on the horizon.
Datti vowed to lead the charge in bridging the divide and restoring internal harmony. According to him, meaningful dialogue and unity are key to repositioning the Labour Party as a viable alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.
