The Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, has intercepted 420 kilograms of pangolin scales in a major operation targeting illegal wildlife trade in Kano metropolis.

The seizure took place on July 16, 2025, at about 7 p.m., during a coordinated operation involving the Command’s Special Wildlife Office, Intelligence Unit, and Police Unit.

According to the Area Controller, Dalhatu Abubakar, the operation demonstrates the Command’s continued resolve to protect wildlife by disrupting criminal supply chains and using intelligence-led approaches and technology to detect and prevent trafficking activities.

The Customs Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding endangered species for future generations. It also emphasized that it will not tolerate any form of wildlife crime, pledging to increase surveillance and enforcement across its operational zones.

The Area Command commended the dedication of its officers and expressed appreciation to international partners supporting the fight against wildlife trafficking
