According to the SSG, the committee comprises respected professionals, academics, traditional leaders, and representatives from civil society, selected for their proven records in national development and governance.

The committee is chaired by constitutional law expert Professor Auwalu Yadudu, with Professor Hafiz Abubakar serving as co-chair. Other members include legal luminary Barr. A. B. Mahmoud, SAN; Professor Habu Muhammad of Mambayya House, BUK; Ali Ibrahim Matawalle of the Kano Emirate Council; and several government commissioners, scholars, and community leaders.

The secretariat for the committee will be led by Alhaji Umar Muhammad Jalo, Permanent Secretary of the REPA Directorate, supported by other senior civil servants including Abdulkadir Shehu, Ibrahim Bawa, and Aminu Ibrahim Bichi.

Alhaji Farouq explained that the committee’s primary task is to critically review the proposed constitutional amendments and identify key areas of interest to Kano State, including local government autonomy, creation of state police, the role of traditional institutions, and resource control, among others.

He urged the committee to consult widely and engage the public in order to produce a position paper that reflects the views of diverse stakeholders in the state. He also commended the members for their readiness to contribute to a process of national importance and encouraged continued public awareness efforts through the media.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Professor Habu Muhammad, committee chairman Professor Auwalu Yadudu thanked the governor for the confidence placed in them and pledged that the team would carry out its mandate with diligence, fairness, and professionalism. He also appealed for public support through prayers and constructive input to enrich the process.

The committee is expected to submit a comprehensive report that will serve as Kano State’s official contribution to the national constitutional review process.
