The handover ceremony, held on Monday at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, was attended by key stakeholders in the nation’s energy sector. NNPC Ltd’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, described the move as part of the company’s commitment to driving the adoption of CNG as a cleaner, cheaper, and more sustainable alternative to conventional fuels.

Ojulari noted that the company has made strides in expanding gas infrastructure, distribution networks, and retail access across the country, placing NNPC Ltd at the forefront of the Federal Government’s energy transition strategy.

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, said the deployment of CNG buses represents more than just a transportation initiative, but also a tool for economic relief, environmental protection, and social inclusion. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at reducing transport costs and maximizing the use of the country’s natural gas reserves.

In his remarks, NNPC Ltd’s Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mr. Mumuni Dagazau, highlighted the economic impact of CNG, noting its potential to cut down reliance on petrol and diesel, resulting in substantial savings and boosting local gas development.

Echoing similar sentiments, the Executive Vice President, Gas, Power & New Energy, assured that NNPC Ltd remains committed to spearheading the commercialisation of CNG and advancing the clean energy agenda.

The Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, also noted that the initiative reflects NNPC’s broader vision of building a sustainable energy future for Nigerians and their communities.

Programme Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the Presidential CNG Initiative, Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi, lauded NNPC Ltd for its consistent support, describing the company as a dependable partner since the start of the programme.
