Kano was thrown into tension on Sunday following a violent confrontation at the entrance of Gidan Rumfa, the official residence of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.

Eyewitnesses reported that a group of youths suspected to be linked to the entourage of the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, forcefully attempted to enter the palace. During the altercation, the main entrance gate was reportedly damaged, security personnel were injured, and police vehicles stationed nearby were vandalized.

In a statement addressing the incident, the spokesperson for Emir Sanusi II, Sadam Na’ando Yakasai, alleged that those involved were part of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero’s convoy. According to him, the group had earlier attended a condolence visit to the family of the late business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, but instead of returning via the Koki-Nassarawa route, diverted toward Gidan Dabo and approached Gidan Rumfa.

“This is not the first time Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has passed through this route,” Na’ando said, referencing a previous incident during the former emir’s visit to his Mandawari residence.

However, a source close to Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, who spoke to Daily News 24 Hausa under anonymity, denied the claims. The source insisted the entourage was not responsible for the violence, stating that a mob had gathered near the palace gate and began hurling stones at the convoy, forcing some members to defend themselves.

According to the source, the clash occurred before the arrival of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero himself. He was said to have advised his entourage not to retaliate, despite the provocation.
