The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has sealed the Kano head office of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) over multi-billion naira tax arrears, triggering a standoff between the two agencies.

Sources within KEDCO revealed that the office has remained closed for the past nine days after FIRS officials, armed with a court order, stormed the premises to enforce the closure. Staff and security personnel have been denied access since the enforcement action began, Solacebase reports.

In a retaliatory move, KEDCO reportedly disconnected electricity supply to all FIRS offices in Kano State, escalating tensions between the federal tax agency and the power distribution company.

Though both FIRS and KEDCO have yet to issue official statements on the matter, an insider at the tax agency disclosed that the outstanding arrears date back as far as six years. The debt is said to have accumulated under previous leadership at KEDCO.

As of the time of this report, neither party has indicated any willingness to resolve the issue, leaving the situation at a stalemate.
