A Federal High Court in Abuja has found Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan guilty of contempt for violating a court order by making a satirical post on her Facebook page.

The court, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, ruled that the post breached an earlier directive that restrained all parties from making public comments on the ongoing case involving the senator and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Senator Akpabio had filed the contempt proceedings, arguing that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Facebook post mocked the court’s earlier decision and undermined the judicial process. In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team maintained that the post was unrelated to the case, claiming it referenced a different issue entirely.
However, Justice Nyako rejected that argument and held that the post was connected to the matter before the court, specifically regarding the senator’s suspension.
As part of the judgment, the court directed Akpoti-Uduaghan to issue a public apology in two national newspapers and also on her Facebook page within seven days. Additionally, she was fined N5 million for contempt.
