Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, one of Nigeria’s most prominent businessmen and elder statesmen, has died at the age of 94 after a prolonged illness.
The Kano-born billionaire passed away in the early hours of Saturday, according to a family source. His death has stirred reactions across political and business circles, especially in Northern Nigeria.

Born on May 19, 1931, Dantata chaired the Dantata Organization Limited and expanded the family’s business empire across construction, oil and gas, agriculture, and manufacturing. He was also known for mentoring northern entrepreneurs.
A devoted philanthropist and Islamic leader, he supported education, health, and religious causes through scholarships, zakat, and donations.
Dantata served as a minister in the First Republic, contributed to the 1979 Constitution, and was part of the 1990s Constitutional Conference.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in line with Islamic rites.
