The Kano State Police Command has apprehended four suspects, including a woman, over their alleged involvement in a syndicate linked to a series of tricycle thefts across the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the command said the arrests followed a coordinated operation based on credible intelligence, which led to the capture of two suspects on June 17 – Auwal Mohammed, 30, of Hotoro Quarters, and Maryam Ibrahim, 25, from Bauchi State in Kura Local Government Area.

According to police, the duo allegedly drugged a tricycle operator, Shu’aibu Aliyu, in an attempt to steal his vehicle. However, officers responded swiftly and recovered the tricycle before it could be taken away.

Further investigation led to the arrest of two others believed to be receivers of stolen tricycles – Suleiman Lawal, also known as Aljan, 25, from Sheka Quarters, and Muhammad Tajuddeen, 32, of Kundila Quarters.

The police said six stolen tricycles have so far been recovered from the suspects.

“The Command remains committed to ensuring the suspects are prosecuted accordingly,” the statement read, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

The police also advised residents who may have lost their tricycles to visit the Bompai Police Headquarters or contact the Police Public Relations Officer through 07014601313 for possible identification and recovery.
