According to a statement on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Monday. The victims were reportedly profiled and attacked without provocation.
Describing the act as “barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable,” Governor Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss, stating that the victims were peace-loving citizens exercising their right to live and work in any part of Nigeria.
“It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of two promising sons of Kano,” the governor said. “Their only offence was trying to earn a living peacefully in another state.”
He assured that the Kano State Government is committed to ensuring justice for the victims and pledged to collaborate with security agencies and the Benue State Government to apprehend those behind the attack.
The governor also announced plans to lead a delegation of government officials and family members to the funeral prayers scheduled at the National Mosque in Abuja.
While condoling the families of the deceased, Governor Yusuf extended his sympathies to prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, the father of the two victims. He described the killings as a great loss to the families, the state, and the nation at large.
“This government will not rest until justice is served. We call for calm and urge the public to remain peaceful as investigations continue,” he added.
