The Arewa Youth Advancement Forum (AYAF) has called on Islamic and Christian religious leaders across Nigeria to take a firm stand in holding political officeholders accountable.

This call was made during a press conference held in Kano on Wednesday, where the AYAF President, Comrade Mukhtar Sagir Dambatta, addressed journalists on the importance of moral leadership and accountability. The statement was signed by the forum’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Sadiq Umar.
Dambatta emphasized the crucial role of religious leaders in shaping good governance and nation-building. “We urge our respected Islamic and Christian scholars to consistently speak the truth to those in power, without fear or favoritism. Their voices carry moral authority, and they must use it to guide our leaders towards justice, accountability, and service to the people,” he said.
He noted that beyond offering prayers, religious figures must confront leadership failures and offer guidance that reminds public officials of their responsibilities to both citizens and God.
Dambatta also reiterated the forum’s commitment to promoting peace, empowering youth, and encouraging moral responsibility across Northern Nigeria and the country at large.
He encouraged religious institutions to serve as agents of truth and social change, especially amid rising economic hardship and political instability.
