The Kano Emirate under the Nassarawa royal house, led by Emir Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has suspended this year’s traditional Eid-el-Kabir Sallah procession, popularly known as Hawan, citing security concerns.

According to a statement by the Secretary of the Emirate, Malam Awaisu Abbas Sanusi, the decision was reached after consultations with security agencies and other relevant authorities. Intelligence reports had indicated a potential threat of unrest by certain individuals, prompting the Emirate to act in the interest of public safety.
The suspension follows a similar move during the last Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, where horse-riding processions were also put on hold to avoid any disruptions to public peace.
The Emirate called on residents to intensify prayers for lasting peace in Kano and the country as a whole.
The development comes shortly after the Kofar Kudu Emirate had initiated preparations for the procession, before the police later imposed a ban on such activities.
