The incident occurred on Saturday at Dakatsalle Bridge in Kura Local Government Area, about 50 kilometers from Kano city, when a bus conveying the athletes and officials lost control and plunged off the bridge.

The vehicle, said to be owned by the Kano State Sports Commission, was carrying athletes, officials, journalists, and medical staff. One of the victims has been identified as Abdulsamad Rabi’u, a medical officer attached to the team.

According to a survivor, the bus was carrying approximately 30 people. He said 22 passengers died at the scene, while others were taken to the Kura General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Confirming the crash, Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Bala Fagge, described the incident as a major loss. He said the accident happened just as the team approached the outskirts of Kano after several days of travel.

Reports indicate that the bus lost control before veering off the bridge, resulting in a high number of casualties and severe injuries among the survivors.
