The Zamfara State Government has dismissed a viral social media report alleging that a 22-year-old woman named Zainab Muhamadu is being prosecuted in a Sharia court for converting from Islam to Christianity.

In a statement issued by the spokesperson to Governor Dauda Lawal, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the report was described as entirely false and deliberately crafted to attract online attention and incite unrest.
The government said it took the matter seriously and consulted relevant authorities and security agencies, who all confirmed that no such case exists in the state. The Grand Khadi of the Zamfara Sharia Court of Appeal also verified that there is no record of any case involving Zainab Muhamadu in any Sharia court across Zamfara.
The administration raised concerns about the motive behind the fake report, noting that it appeared intended to stir religious tension and create division among citizens. It further expressed worry over the increasing trend of media platforms spreading unverified stories without proper checks.
Further investigation revealed that the photo used in the viral post was not that of a Nigerian woman, but of someone named Aalia, a resident of Texas, United States.
The Zamfara State Government emphasized that no such incident had occurred within the state and urged the public to support efforts towards sustaining peace and stability. It also called on security agencies to identify the origin of the misinformation and ensure that those responsible face justice.
