A political coalition headed by Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has debunked reports suggesting it has settled on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 general elections.

The coalition also dismissed claims that Salihu Lukman, a former Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been appointed to lead its secretariat.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, Lukman, who currently serves as the coalition’s interim spokesperson, described the reports as baseless and misleading. He clarified that discussions are still ongoing among coalition leaders and that no final decision has been reached on which political party will serve as the coalition’s platform for the upcoming elections.

He accused certain individuals of deliberately spreading misinformation in a bid to sow discord among opposition ranks. Lukman urged the media and the public to disregard the unverified claims, promising that an official position would be made public once internal consultations are concluded.

The coalition reiterated its commitment to building a united and formidable front capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the next general elections.
