The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to conduct a mop-up examination for candidates who were unable to sit for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The announcement was made by JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday. He said the board remains committed to ensuring no candidate is unfairly denied the opportunity to participate in the examination, regardless of why they missed the initial test.

Oloyede reiterated that the UTME is not an intelligence test but a placement examination designed to rank candidates for limited tertiary admission slots. He also addressed concerns raised by critics, dismissing allegations of ethnic bias and administrative incompetence.

He emphasized that the board takes full responsibility for the conduct of the examination and encouraged stakeholders to avoid promoting ethnic profiling or conspiracy theories that could undermine the process.

The registrar also commended both candidates and examination officials for showing resilience amid logistical challenges faced during the main exam. The board confirmed that the date for the mop-up exam will be announced soon.
