Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he has no intention of running against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made this known in an interview with BBC News Pidgin, where he dismissed rumours suggesting he might contest the presidency. The speculation had arisen following his recent comments on the zoning of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to President Tinubu, describing the administration as one he fully supports. He also stated that there is currently no opposition figure capable of posing a serious challenge to the president.
Commenting on the PDP’s internal discussions about zoning, the former Rivers State governor said the party should first decide on where the ticket would be zoned before engaging in further political calculations.
On the political turmoil in Rivers State, Wike denied having any personal issues with the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, referring to him as his son. He said the ongoing crisis is being fuelled by individuals who are seeking to manipulate the state’s resources for selfish reasons.
He also reiterated his stance on accountability, stating that he will continue resisting corruption and protecting public resources from individuals who did not contribute to the state’s development.
