A member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Sumaila constituency, Zubairu Hamza Masu, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Masu’s defection was announced during Monday’s plenary after Speaker Ismail Falgore read his resignation letter, dated May 12, 2025, on the floor of the Assembly.

In the letter, Masu said his decision was due to the deepening internal crisis rocking the NNPP. He cited unresolved leadership tussles both at the state and national levels and a series of ongoing legal battles as the main reasons for quitting the party.

According to him, the party has been paralyzed by multiple court cases and disputes over key leadership positions. At the state level, Suleiman Dungurawa and Mas’ud El-Jibrin Doguwa are locked in a power struggle over who is the legitimate chairman. A similar conflict exists at the national level between Ahmed Ajuji and Agbo Major.

Masu also referenced pending legal cases including Nigerian People’s Party vs. 20 others, Nigerian People’s Party vs. INEC, and Chukwemeka Okoro vs. others, which he said have further destabilized the NNPP and undermined its political structure.

He declared his full support for the APC leadership at all levels, pledging loyalty to the party’s vision.
