A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has ruled in favour of the Kano State Censorship Board, dismissing a case filed by Amart Enterprises, a company owned by Hajiya Aisha Amart.

The company had sought legal backing to stop the board from interfering in its film copyright and downloading activities within the state. But in his judgment, Hon. Justice Simon A. Amobeda struck out the suit, citing lack of jurisdiction.

The legal dispute followed a prolonged disagreement between the company and the board over regulatory compliance. According to the board, the company had failed to honour an agreement reached earlier, which prompted the matter to escalate to court.

Abba El-mustapha, a senior official of the Kano State Censorship Board, had made several attempts to resolve the matter amicably before the legal action. Following the judgment, he expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision and reiterated the board’s commitment to enforcing the law without bias.

He emphasised the board’s intention to continue protecting the interests of stakeholders in the Kannywood film industry while discouraging actions that violate existing regulations.
