The Labour Party has announced the indefinite suspension of key members, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Senator Ireti Kingibe, and Senator Darlington Nwokocha, over allegations of anti-party activities.

The decision followed the ratification of a disciplinary committee report by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on May 7, 2025. The committee, constituted on May 2, had been mandated to investigate the affected members over alleged misconduct detrimental to the party’s interest.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the suspension takes immediate effect. According to him, the suspended individuals are no longer permitted to represent or act on behalf of the Labour Party. Relevant institutions, including the Nigeria Governors Forum and the National Assembly, have been officially notified of the development.

The party also addressed concerns regarding Nenadi Usman, clarifying that she is not affiliated with the Labour Party. It questioned her credibility on corruption-related matters, urging her to publicly reveal details of her reported plea bargain with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Reaffirming its stance on accountability, the Labour Party noted that it had published its audited financial accounts and received commendation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for transparency.

The party restated its readiness to independently contest the 2027 general elections, dismissing any speculation of mergers or coalition arrangements.
