The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has made history by establishing Nigeria’s first-ever School of Laundry and Drycleaning Technology, setting a new benchmark in professional cleaning services and hospital hygiene training.

Located within the AKTH premises, the pioneering institution aims to equip students with skills in the proper handling, washing, and sterilization of medical fabrics such as surgical gowns and bed linens.

The curriculum, which has received a five-year accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), currently offers a National Diploma (ND) in Laundry and Drycleaning Technology. Plans are underway to expand the programme to include a Higher National Diploma (HND).

Originally conceived to train AKTH staff, the school has now opened its doors to candidates across Nigeria, admitting students through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Many of these students are sponsored by federal teaching hospitals, medical centers, and state health ministries, while others self-fund their training to build careers in the growing laundry and drycleaning sector.
