Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the release of N15.6 billion for the payment of outstanding severance allowances and gratuities owed to former councillors who served under the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the administration of ex-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

The approved sum of N15,667,634,645.10 will cover unpaid entitlements of the local government legislators, marking a significant step by the Yusuf-led administration to settle inherited liabilities and promote inclusive governance.
The decision was part of the resolutions reached at the 27th Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, where the council also approved a total of N51.5 billion for the execution of key developmental projects across the state.
Governor Yusuf, who came into office with a pledge to restore accountability and fairness, has so far disbursed over N20 billion in arrears of pensions and benefits owed to retired and deceased civil servants out of the N40 billion liabilities left by the previous administration.
Critics of the Ganduje government have long accused it of mismanaging federal bail-out funds and neglecting the welfare of workers.
In contrast, Governor Yusuf’s move to settle outstanding dues of even opposition party loyalists is being hailed as a demonstration of political maturity and commitment to people-centered leadership.
