At least 14 people have been killed and several others injured following a deadly attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on mourners in Kopl village, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.

The assault, which took place on Monday evening, targeted residents gathered for a final-day funeral prayer. According to the Chairman of Chibok LGA, Hon. Modu Mustapha, the attackers also torched a church and more than ten homes, leaving the entire community displaced.
Mustapha initially confirmed seven deaths but later said the toll had doubled as search and rescue operations progressed. “The situation is devastating,” he said.
The injured victims were evacuated to Mubi General Hospital in neighbouring Adamawa State for medical attention.
The attack came barely 24 hours after another tragic incident along the Gamboru Ngala-Kala Balge road, where an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) killed or wounded dozens.
Reacting to the renewed wave of violence, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, described the situation in the region as “pathetic and beyond human imagination.”
Ndume revealed that over 100 people had been killed in the past month alone across different communities in southern Borno, with local vigilante members also among the casualties. He criticized the lack of proactive response from security agencies, stating, “Our people are being attacked almost on a daily basis.”
The escalation in attacks has heightened fear and tension among residents, who continue to call for urgent government intervention to restore peace in the region.
