The Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, has referred to Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila as a “stubborn boy” following the senator’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dungurawa made the remark during a press briefing shortly after Kawu, who represents Kano South Senatorial District, officially announced his move to the APC.
The NNPP chairman explained that the party had anticipated Kawu’s defection, describing the senator as someone who added little or no value to the party. He noted that Kawu had already been suspended prior to his exit due to his limited contributions.
Dungurawa also stated that Kawu’s departure would bring internal peace to the party. He described the senator’s presence in the NNPP as a source of distraction, saying the party can now concentrate better on its objectives.
He further dismissed the likelihood of more defections from the party, citing that other suspended members, including Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, still identify with the NNPP and have not left despite disciplinary actions taken against them.
On his part, Senator Kawu Sumaila attributed his decision to join the APC to his commitment to the development of his people and his desire to deliver better opportunities to his constituency. He emphasized that his political decisions are guided by the interest of his local base.
He noted that both his efforts and the NNPP contributed to his election victory, with voters backing him for his track record. He also dismissed concerns over strained ties with the Kano State government, reaffirming his commitment to the state’s development.
