In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kawu Sumaila said politics is about dialogue, consensus, and finding the best path to deliver results. According to him, his defection was not an act of betrayal but a strategic decision aimed at improving the lives of the people he represents.

He acknowledged that both he and the NNPP contributed to his success during the elections, noting that the people voted for him based on his track record and vision. He added that while the party played its role, he also worked hard to build the support that brought him victory.

The senator dismissed the notion that his defection would strain his relationship with the Kano state government. He stated that his commitment to the development of the state remains firm

Kawu Sumaila emphasized that he has no regrets about leaving the NNPP, stressing that his focus remains on protecting the interests of his people and ensuring they benefit from better representation and governance.
